He said that in 2025 around 15 million tonnes of cargo were transported by road between Ukraine and the EU, approximately 7.5 million tonnes in each direction, indicating potential for partial containerisation and modal shift.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/gruzingeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/0d5441a965c232a7.jpg\" alt=\"The amount of freight moved in containers in Ukraine is ten times lower than the rate in the EU.\" class=\"wp-image-20385\" title=\"Europe The amount of freight moved in containers in Ukraine is ten times lower than the rate in the EU.\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Levada Cargo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Levada Cargo, part of the Lemtrans Group, stated that only around 3.8% of freight in Ukraine is moved in containers, compared with a rate roughly ten times higher in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>According to Levada Cargo, shifting part of this volume to rail would reduce pressure on EU road infrastructure and lower CO\u2082 emissions in line with European Green Deal objectives. The company also identified regulatory alignment with EU standards, simplified customs procedures and greater predictability in transport regulation as necessary conditions alongside infrastructure investment.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/gruzingeo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/d8844c712e45b1d9.jpg\" alt=\"The amount of freight moved in containers in Ukraine is ten times lower than the rate in the EU.\" class=\"wp-image-20386\" title=\"Europe The amount of freight moved in containers in Ukraine is ten times lower than the rate in the EU.\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Levada Cargo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Levada Cargo reported that it has built three multimodal container terminals in Ukraine in recent years, one independently and two in partnership.
