The Rhenus Group has inked a collaborative memorandum with Uzbekistan Railway during the Central Asia Summit in Berlin held in late September. This partnership signifies the establishment of joint ventures focused on operating and expanding combined terminals in Andijan and Samarkand. The agreement, formalized in the presence of Uzbek Transport Minister Ilhom Makhamov, emphasizes a closer collaboration between Rhenus and Uzbekistan Railways to develop existing transshipment facilities within the country.
Under the terms of the memorandum, Rhenus and Uztemiryulkonteyner, a subsidiary of Uzbek Railways, will establish two joint ventures aimed at the expansion and operation of integrated road-rail terminals in Andijan and Samarkand. Additionally, the partners have committed to strategic initiatives to boost capacity and augment rail freight traffic in the Republic of Uzbekistan. With a population exceeding 35 million, Uzbekistan stands as the most populous country in Central Asia, experiencing robust economic growth and serving as a crucial link between China, Turkey, and Europe. Alongside its activities in Uzbekistan, the Rhenus Group maintains a presence in neighboring countries such as Kazakhstan, the southern Caucasus, and the Asia-Pacific region.
