From 2029, Switzerland will start charging electric trucks the LSVA environmental fee, making them equal to all other freight transport. This decision aims to fairly distribute infrastructure costs and support the transition of freight transport to rail.

A system of discounts for environmentally friendly transport, including electric vehicles and hydrogen trucks, will be in effect until 2035. This will provide predictability for fleets and will be an incentive for investment in low-emission technologies.

Currently, around 90% of trucks fall under the lowest LSVA tariff, while emission-free vehicles are exempt from payment. The updated law will move Euro VI and Euro VII diesel trucks to a higher tariff category, with Euro VII models receiving temporary discounts. In the future, changes to the LSVA system will be announced at least seven years in advance.
