The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) will provide a grant of US$275,000 to prepare a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of the Balikchi-Cholpon-Ata railway line in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. The funds will be allocated from the bank’s technical assistance fund.
The agreement was signed between the EDB and the national railway company Kyrgyz Temir Zholu. The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately US$500 million.
According to the EDB, the study will determine the optimal technical and financial parameters for construction, create a model for attracting investment, and consider the possibility of integrating the railway with the region’s tourism and transport infrastructure, including the resorts of Issyk-Kul, Tamchy Airport, and connections with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
