The EU has approved funding for the TWIN-PORT VI project, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Tallinn and Helsinki ports. Spanning four years, the project aims to further reduce emissions in the transport system and enhance operational conditions for both passenger and freight transport.

TWIN-PORT VI is integral to the twin city development strategy between Helsinki and Tallinn. The Port of Tallinn’s initiatives under the project include the installation of on-shore power systems at Muuga Harbour, aimed at bolstering environmental sustainability along the route.

Meanwhile, the Port of Helsinki is advancing its development program through the 2030s, focusing on modernizing port operations to accommodate increasing volumes of freight and passenger traffic. Within TWIN-PORT VI, Helsinki will implement onshore power systems at Vuosaari to support greener practices in vessel traffic.

With an overall budget of €30.8 million, the EU provides 50% funding, while the remainder is contributed by the respective ports. Port of Tallinn allocates approximately €20.3 million, and Port of Helsinki €10.5 million, underscoring their commitment to advancing sustainable port infrastructure and operations.
