The first hydrogen and electric tanker in Lithuania has been launched in the port of Klaipeda. The vessel, ordered by the Klaipeda State Seaport, does not harm the environment and will clean the port waters by accepting waste from other ships. The launch of this innovative project highlights Lithuania’s commitment to environmentally friendly shipping.

The tanker is 42 meters long and 10 meters wide. It is equipped with two electric motors powered by 2000 kWh batteries and a hydrogen fuel cell system. Without recharging, the vessel will be able to operate in the port for up to 36 hours. It is equipped with special tanks and a modern rainwater treatment system, which will allow it to process and safely dispose of up to 400 cubic meters of liquid waste.

The tanker, worth 12 million euros, is being built at the West Baltic Shipyard in cooperation with Baltic Workboats. The final stage of outfitting is ahead – installation of machinery, electrical systems and a hydrogen plant. The ship is expected to begin its environmental mission in the port of Klaipeda by the end of the year.
