On 7 July 2025, the Port of Gdansk received a delegation from the Embassy of Bangladesh headed by Ambassador Md. Mainul Islam and First Secretary Biswadit Debnath. The representatives of the port presented the strategic opportunities of Gdansk and discussed the prospects of direct sea links with Bangladesh, in particular cooperation with the country’s largest port of Chittagong, as well as participation in LNG projects.
Bangladesh is a country with a population of over 170 million people, actively developing not only the textile industry, but also electronics, pharmaceuticals, energy and IT. Chittagong, through which over 90% of Bangladesh’s foreign trade passes, handles over 3 million TEU annually and plays a key role in the region’s logistics.
Today, trade between Poland and Bangladesh is carried out mainly through transit ports, but the development of infrastructure and the growth of trade turnover open up opportunities for direct container lines. The Port of Gdansk views Bangladesh as an important partner for strengthening its position in Central and Eastern Europe and expanding international logistics ties.
