According to Algis Latakas, Director General of the Port of Klaipeda Authority, the new base is an investment in technology, sustainable infrastructure and personnel development. It will accommodate nine specialized vessels, including two hybrid pilot boats and a hydrogen-electric waste collection vessel. They will be serviced by shore power supply and electric charging stations, and the base building meets the highest energy efficiency standards and is equipped with a solar power plant.

The fleet base project, worth 5.4 million euros, was implemented by UAB Infes. The construction of the country’s first green hydrogen production facility will soon begin on the site of the previous base. By the beginning of next year, it is this fuel that is planned to supply the new environmentally friendly waste collection vessel, which will soon be transferred to the Klaipeda port.
