The Port of Klaipeda increased its cargo turnover by 16% and strengthened its leadership among the Baltic ports.

In the first half of 2025, the port of Klaipeda handled almost 19 million tons of cargo, which is 16% more than in the same period last year. The growth was driven by container traffic (6.5 million tons, +38%), as well as increased volumes in the LNG (+47%), mineral and construction materials (+48%), ro-ro (+6%) and oil products (+4%) segments. The container volume reached almost 700 thousand TEU, and the port is expected to exceed the 1 million TEU mark by the end of the year.

According to the head of the port administration, Algis Latakas, investments in modernization and the refusal to suspend projects during the crisis period have yielded tangible results. Today, Klaipeda holds a 40.8% market share among the ports of the Baltic States (versus 37.1% a year earlier), having outpaced Riga and Tallinn in terms of growth rates. In the first half of the year, the port carried out commercial shipping with 56 countries, the largest flows were from Germany, Sweden, Poland, the USA and the Netherlands.

Along with the growth of passenger traffic (164 thousand people, +20%) and active work of shipbuilding companies (2 new ships, 35 repaired), the port recorded a decrease in volumes in a number of areas: scrap metal (-25%), grain (-14%), timber (-11%) and fertilizers (-4%). Despite this, Klaipeda continues to demonstrate confident development and remains a key logistics hub in the region.
