The Port of Klaipeda has become one of the leaders in environmental protection among European seaports. Singapore-based shipping company X-Press Feeders has included the Port of Klaipeda in the route of its container ships powered by green methanol. The vessel using this sustainable fuel, Eco Umande, has called at the port for the first time, starting a new era of environmentally friendly shipping. Eco Umande will call at the port every two weeks.

X-Press Feeders, founded more than 50 years ago in Singapore, operates more than 100 vessels and is actively developing a network of routes in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Mediterranean and Europe. As part of its sustainability efforts, X-Press Feeders has already acquired 14 vessels with green methanol capability, three of which are in operation, including Eco Umande, with the rest of the vessels to be delivered by 2026.

In April this year, X-Press Feeders and six European ports, including Klaipeda, signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at accelerating the creation of green shipping corridors and the decarbonization of the maritime sector in Scandinavia and the Baltic. As part of this agreement, the development of infrastructure for the provision and refuelling of alternative fuels, including green methanol, continues.
