According to the results of January–May 2025, the cargo turnover of the Freeport of Riga decreased by 7.2% compared to the same period last year and amounted to more than 6.9 million tons. The main decline was shown by bulk cargo, the volume of which decreased by 16.6%, to 3.1 million tons, including over 1 million tons of agricultural products – 20.4% less than a year earlier.
General cargo handling also went into the negative – by 0.7%, to 3.3 million tons. At the same time, container transportation showed growth: the port handled more than 211.7 thousand TEU, which is 6.8% more than in the same period of 2024. Steady growth was also recorded in the liquid segment – +31.2%, to 481.1 thousand tons, of which almost 382 thousand tons were oil products (+28.4%).
Despite the overall decline in cargo turnover, passenger traffic demonstrated positive dynamics: 17,106 people passed through the port of Riga in the first five months – 2.2 times more than in the same period last year.
