The Freeport of Riga Council has approved an investment plan for 2025, according to which EUR 7.43 million will be invested in the development of the port, which is 17% more than last year. The funds will be used to modernize the port infrastructure, digitalize and implement strategically important projects. As noted by the Chairman of the Council Sandis Steins, the port is actively working on creating modern logistics and production areas, attracting investors, but the current infrastructure needs to be modernized to meet the requirements of large projects.

Key initiatives include completing the construction of a section of the new overpass from Tvaika Street to Kundzinsala, building a modern checkpoint with a digital vehicle registration system, and developing the Kundzinsala industrial zone. A large logistics and wind power component manufacturing center is planned to be built in this area, for which more than EUR 85 million will be allocated in total.

Also in 2025, the reconstruction of Flotė Street in Daugavgriva will begin, which will improve the transport accessibility of the port and its terminals. Work will continue on the creation of a modern passenger infrastructure in Eksportu, including improving navigation conditions for receiving cruise ships over 300 meters long. In parallel, digital transformation projects are being implemented, including the introduction of biometric control systems and automated processing of logistics data.

Another important area is the environmental modernization of the port. Within the framework of the BalticSeaH2 project, research is being conducted on the use of hydrogen technologies in maritime transport, as well as the development of solutions for the use of alternative fuels. In addition, the port has signed a contract for the construction of a 100 MW solar park with investments of up to 80 million euros.
