The UK Government has given the green light to more than 50 rail and road infrastructure projects funded as part of a £92.8bn spending package. These include five major rail projects and five strategic road upgrades across England. These initiatives aim to create 42,000 jobs and support 39,000 new homes, as well as reducing congestion, reducing journey times and improving regional connectivity.
A particular focus is on upgrading the A66 through the Pennines and creating a rail hub in the Midlands. In addition to the major projects, there will be improvements to local roads and the introduction of digital traffic management systems on key rail routes. John Foster, chief policy officer and spokesman for the CBI, said: “Improving transport accessibility is key to driving productivity growth and sustainable economic growth in the country.
This major investment demonstrates the UK Government’s commitment to modernising transport infrastructure, boosting the economy and improving quality of life for residents, while delivering more efficient and greener transport links across the country.
