Transfesa Logistics, the Spanish subsidiary of DB Cargo, is upgrading its vehicle fleet by introducing 200 modern double-deck wagons. This expansion aims to improve transport efficiency on the Mediterranean Corridor and reduce emissions through the transition to more environmentally friendly rail solutions. The new standard-gauge wagons feature an adjustable upper deck, allowing for the flexible transportation of a wide range of vehicles—from electric vehicles to small vans—increasing load capacity and simplifying cross-border operations.
According to Samuel Nevado, Director of Transportation at Transfesa Group, the fleet upgrade strengthens the company’s position within DB Cargo’s international network and is an important step towards more modern, efficient, and climate-neutral rail transport. The project is funded by the NextGenerationEU program and Spain’s Sustainable and Digital Transport Development Plan, which promotes both the technical modernization of the industry and its integration into a single, low-carbon European logistics space.
The fleet expansion supports the key European Mediterranean corridor, improving standard-gauge interoperability and increasing the share of rail freight between Spain and Central Europe. Transfesa Logistics is thus making a significant contribution to sustainable growth and innovation in the European rail freight sector.
