Railport, described as the first intermodal terminal in Turkey, has begun operations near Kartepe, about 130 km east of Istanbul.
The terminal has been developed as a joint venture between duisport and Turkish logistics group Arkas. The partners report an investment in the “tens of millions of euros”, which is the largest foreign capital project in the history of Duisburger Hafen. Arkas is responsible for local market and operational experience, while duisport’s contribution is framed around its international network and terminal know‑how.

Railport occupies 265,000 m² and includes more than 10,000 m of track, 5,000 m² of temporary enclosed storage and a 15,000 m² warehouse with capacity for over 22,000 standard Euro pallets. The site also offers customs, warehousing and container freight station services. The reported annual handling capacity is 125,000 trailers.

The facility’s location links it directly with road and rail infrastructure in the Marmara industrial region. It is connected with the upgraded Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki (BTK) route, which connects Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, and with the so‑called Central Corridor towards Central Asia, China and Southeast Asia. Railport also has access to Europe through Turkey’s rail network and proximity to the Marmaray tunnel under the Bosphorus.
Railport’s launch comes as stakeholders in Turkish logistics highlight the country’s position on key east-west freight routes. The development adds rail freight terminal capacity to support import, export and transit cargo movements through Turkey.
