Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said that the Zangezur Corridor could bring in 147.6 billion liras (about 4.1 billion euros) over the next 30 years. According to him, up to 15 million tons of cargo could be transported along the route annually.
The Zangezur Corridor will pass through the Syunik region of Armenia, connecting mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region and providing access to Turkey. Thus, a new direct transport route through the South Caucasus will be created, significantly strengthening regional connectivity.
The idea of the corridor arose after the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. Ankara emphasizes that its implementation will be an important contribution to the development of the region’s transit potential and strengthening Turkey’s position in international logistics.
