VARO Energy Group emerges victorious in the Port Authority’s recent tender for the most environmentally friendly energy carrier. Since 2018, the port of Rotterdam has embraced VARO’s HVO100 (100% Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) for its fleet, a biofuel crafted entirely from sustainable sources, slashing CO2 emissions by an impressive 89% compared to traditional diesel fuel. With the flexibility to blend with conventional diesel and compatibility with existing engines without modifications, HVO proves to be a accessible and cost-effective avenue for CO2 reduction.

Aligned with the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s emission-free vessel goal starting from 2025, VARO is tasked with exploring diverse fuel options, including hydrogen, methanol, biofuel, and other synthetic fuels, in line with the port’s commitment to air quality objectives. The Port of Rotterdam Authority cements its commitment to clean energy by renewing its agreement with VARO Energy Group, ensuring the continued use of environmentally friendly fuels for its vessels and critical facilities.
