The terminal, previously located in central Sundsvall, is now situated within the logistics park adjacent to the newly developed container port.

From 1 October 2025, VÄTE Rail assumed operational responsibility for the Sundsvall intermodal terminal after being awarded the contract by Sundsvall Municipality through Sundsvalls Logistikpark.

As part of the new contract, VÄTE Rail plans to operate five weekly round trips between Sundsvall and Gothenburg. These services will be handled using the company’s own locomotives and shunting personnel. The operations will be conducted under the newly formed subsidiary VÄTE Kombi, which will officially begin managing the terminal from the same date.

The terminal site features four tracks and has capacity for future expansion. The surrounding area includes approximately 120 hectares of land designated for logistics and transport-related developments. With direct connections to both the rail network and the container port, the terminal is positioned to support intermodal freight flows between northern Sweden and other parts of the country.

Founded in 2008 and based in Malmö, VÄTE Rail operates within train haulage, shunting services, and terminal handling at multiple locations across Sweden.
