A new intermodal route will connect Budapest and Luxembourg.

CFL multimodal, together with the MAHART Container Center Terminal and VTG Hungary, are launching a new intermodal rail route between Budapest and Bettembourg-Dudelange. The project is supported by the Association of Hungarian Logistics Centres (MLSZKSZ). The train is scheduled to start operating in the first quarter of 2025, with four weekly journeys carrying containers and semi-trailers.

China joins Middle Corridor, strengthening trade routes.

China officially joined the Middle Corridor, which was announced in September 2024 at the 8th International Silk Road Expo in Xi’an. The participation of China Railway Container Transport Corporation (CRTC) plays an important role in this process. This move reflects China’s strategy to reduce its dependence on sea routes passing through geopolitically unstable areas such as the Strait of Malacca.

Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan strengthen cooperation in the field of railways.

A meeting was held in Baku between the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov and the Deputy Director General of the state-owned National Company Kyrgyz Railways Dastan Usubakunov. The talks were held within the framework of a consultative meeting of the heads of railway administrations on the establishment of the International Association “Eurasian Transport Route”.

China completes testing of driverless freight train.

China has successfully completed a test of an unmanned heavy-haul train on the railway connecting Hebei and Shandong provinces, marking a major milestone in the development of unmanned rail transportation technology. The nearly 1,300-meter-long, 10,800-ton train traveled from Huanghua City in Hebei to Dongying City in Shandong in 2.5 hours. The route is mainly used to transport coal.

Production of freight cars in Kazakhstan increased by 4.6 times.

In Kazakhstan, 590 freight cars were produced in the first eight months of 2024, which is 4.6 times more than in the same period last year, the Ministry of Industry and Construction reports. The increase in production is due to orders from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC for freight and passenger cars, as well as the locomotive fleet renewal program of KTZ – Freight Transportation LLP.
