The Port of Klaipeda will take part in the EU project on adaptation to climate change.

The Port of Klaipeda and its partners were among the first 40 regions in Europe selected to participate in the EU-funded Pathways2Resilience project. The project aims to increase the resilience of regions to climate change and adapt to new environmental conditions. The participants also include the Klaipeda Region Association, the Klaipeda Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Association of Lithuanian Stevedoring Companies and UAB MC Baltics.

Rail Baltica: Project progress and future plans discussed in Brussels.

On 16 September, the Rail Baltica Working Group of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Transport and Mobility met in Brussels. The participants discussed the progress and future development of the global Rail Baltica project, reviewing updates from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The focus was on key achievements, current challenges and upcoming milestones, and the commitment of the participating countries to complete the project by 2030, which will significantly change transport mobility in the region and improve freight transport.

Kuryk Port and Shandong Port Group strengthen cooperation within the framework of TITR.

Serik Akhmetov, General Director of Port Kuryk LLP, took part in business negotiations with the largest Chinese holding company, Shandong Port Group. The meeting was held within the framework of cooperation on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, for which a working group was created to establish international relations and interaction.

Spain to invest €24 billion in rail infrastructure development.

By the end of 2026, Spanish rail operators Adif and Adif AV plan to invest €24.1 billion in infrastructure development. More than half of this amount, €12.1 billion, will be spent on modernizing traditional rail, suburban and freight lines. The main works concern the renewal of signaling, electrification and communication systems, as well as the reconstruction of logistics hubs in key transport areas such as Vicálvaro, Valladolid and Fuente de San Luis.

CMA CGM adds new eco-friendly LNG vessel to its fleet.

CMA CGM has added the first of four new vessels designed for car transportation to its fleet. The 200-metre vessel, with a width of 38 metres, can carry 7,000 cars on 12 decks and runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is currently considered one of the most environmentally friendly options for maritime transport. LNG allows for a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as harmful substances such as nitrogen and sulphur oxides.

Kazakhstan and China strengthen cooperation in rail transport.

A meeting of the heads of railways of Kazakhstan and China was held in Xi’an, where strategic cooperation in the field of railway transportation was discussed. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in freight traffic between the two countries, and in 2023, the volume of transportation reached a record 28.3 million tons.
