In 2025, two large-scale railway projects will be completed ahead of schedule in Kazakhstan: the Dostyk-Moiynty section and the Almaty bypass line. This was announced by Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev at a government meeting, emphasizing that these projects will significantly increase the network’s capacity and strengthen the country’s transit potential.
The world’s largest container port of Shanghai handled 4.62 million TEU in July, which is almost 5% lower than the level of the previous year. The decrease is explained by the high base effect: in July 2024, an absolute record of 4.85 million TEU was set here. At the same time, compared to June, the figure also decreased by almost 2%, which is unusual for the traditional peak season.
According to the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, in the first half of 2025, Germany’s foreign trade turnover with 29 countries in Central, Eastern, Southeastern Europe and Central Asia increased by 2% and reached 275 billion euros, which is 5.4 billion euros more than a year earlier. At the same time, German exports to these regions increased by 2.2% to 144 billion euros, while Germany’s total exports decreased by 0.1% to 786 billion euros.
On July 9, 2025, at the Dostyk station, JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) set a new record for the transfer of export cargo to China – 28 trains were sent in one day, which corresponds to 1,060 cars.
According to ARFC, in January-July 2025, the Transport and Warehousing sector in Kazakhstan recorded a 22.5% increase in the physical volume of services compared to last year. The volume of transportation by all modes of transport amounted to 649.6 million tons (+10.1%), freight turnover reached 324.5 billion ton-km (+12.1%). The Grimaldi Group has taken delivery of the Grande Tianjin, the first of seven clean car carriers (PCTC) ordered from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. The 9,241-vehicle (ceu) vessel, equipped with ammonia and shore power, will be launched on the East Asia – Northern Europe route in mid-August, carrying an initial consignment of 1,000 electric SUVs.
JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and its subsidiary KTZ Express demonstrate steady growth in transit traffic, turning Kazakhstan into one of the central hubs of Eurasian logistics. In 2023, the transit volume reached 27.5 million tons — 33% more than in 2020, and container transit increased to 1.4 million TEU. According to KTZ forecasts, by 2029 this figure could reach 100 million tons, and transit revenues — more than $6 billion. The key driver will be the completion of the Dostyk-Moiynty project, which will double the volume to 55 million tons in 2026. As part of the railway network modernization program, it is planned to build and upgrade 5 thousand km of highways and repair another 11 thousand km of tracks by 2029.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held talks with the head of the Turkish company S Sistem Lojistik Hussein Barlin, during which they discussed the prospects for a strategic partnership in the field of logistics. Kazakhstan is actively developing the Middle Corridor, striving for the status of a key transit hub of Eurasia.

He announced this at a press conference in the government, emphasizing that investments in infrastructure, including the expansion of the Dostyk-Moiynty section, would have a powerful economic effect.
