ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) secures another notable achievement, receiving a commendable B- rating from the international railway association UIC (Union Internationale des Chemins de fer) in the Rail Sustainability Index (RSi). This recognition underscores RCG’s commitment to sustainability and facilitates informed investment decisions globally. The RSi, aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), evaluates RCG’s performance across various indicators, highlighting its exceptional efforts in areas such as Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12). With a score of 61.7 points, RCG significantly surpasses the industry average, showcasing its leadership in promoting sustainable practices within the railway sector.

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) faced a challenging 2023 financial year, marked by a decline in both revenue and earnings. The company cited various economic pressures including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, geopolitical tensions, and inflationary pressures, which hindered post-pandemic recovery efforts. Group revenue dropped by 8.3 percent to €1,446.8 million, with the operating result (EBIT) plummeting by 50.4 percent to €109.4 million, reflecting an EBIT margin of 7.6 percent. Profit after tax and minority interests totaled €20.0 million, a significant decrease from the previous year.

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is responding to increased customer demand by expanding the number of round trips and adapting the TransFER Villach–Frosinone route to accommodate growing needs. Originally launched in 2023 with one monthly round trip as part of the TransFER Villach–Italy service, the route has quickly doubled to two round trips per month, particularly driven by demand from the waste management sector. With plans to potentially increase to four round trips per month, RCG aims to provide more frequent and reliable transportation between Austria and Italy, catering to various industries including timber.

Rhenus has unveiled a state-of-the-art temperature-controlled perishables facility at its London Heathrow base, showcasing its commitment to providing top-notch logistics solutions for fresh products. With a spacious floor area of 2,195 square metres and fully regulated temperature control ranging from 0 to 8 Celsius, the facility is equipped with advanced security measures and a unique two-layer racking configuration, making it an ideal storage solution for various perishable goods.

Kazakhstan’s transport sector demonstrated impressive growth in 2023, attracting a record 2.5 trillion tenge of fixed capital investment. This significant increase of 40.3% compared to the previous year highlights the growing importance of this industry in the country’s economy, whose share of total investment has increased from 10% to 14.5%.

Construction of the innovative multimodal transport terminal “Fishka Nov” has begun in the Chernivtsi region. The main functionality of the terminal is to carry out transshipments with the possibility of simultaneous servicing of freight cars from different tracks: Ukrainian (1520 mm) and European (1435 mm). Additionally, the terminal allows you to efficiently move cargo between vehicles and wagons.

In a groundbreaking initiative, METRANS addresses the overlooked issue of gas composition within shipping containers. Typically, containers are only utilized at 65%, leaving 35% filled with air, including various gases, some potentially harmful. Concerned about the health and safety of logistics workers, METRANS initiated a pilot project in 2019 at its Dunajská Streda terminal to measure gas concentrations within containers without the need to open them.

Gebrüder Weiss, the international transport and logistics company, reported a net revenue of 2.47 billion euros for the 2023 fiscal year, showcasing resilience despite a decrease from 2022. Notably, the Air & Sea business area rebounded to 774 million euros, and Land Transport and Logistics maintained stability at 1.45 billion euros. The company’s equity ratio increased to 63 percent, reinforcing its crisis-handling capabilities and positioning as an exemplary employer.
