Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have agreed to build the Turgundi-Herat-Kandahar-Spin-Boldak railway.

The Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan signed a protocol of intent on the project to build the Turgundi-Herat-Kandahar-Spin Boldak railway. The document was drawn up during the visit of the Kazakh delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin to Afghanistan and will form the basis for a further agreement on cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors.

Tbilisi Dry Port, a project of AD Ports Group in Georgia, will open in May 2025.

In May 2025, the first dry port in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi Dry Port, will begin operating in Tbilisi. The project is being implemented by AD Ports Group (UAE), which has previously invested in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The port received permission from the Georgian Railway Agency to receive and process cargo by rail in accordance with the new requirements that come into force on January 1, 2025.

Freight traffic in Germany fell in February, but began to rise in March.

The German Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) recorded a decline in heavy truck traffic on toll roads in February 2025. After a 3.5% year-on-year increase in January, the volume of transport by trucks over 3.5 tonnes fell by 2.5% year-on-year in February. Both German and Polish carriers recorded a drop in mileage, while Lithuanian trucks showed even weaker results.

The port of Antwerp-Bruges maintains its position in the US market despite trade duties.

The United States has been the second largest foreign trade partner of the port of Antwerp-Bruges for over 20 years. In 2024, the volume of sea freight traffic between the parties reached 28 million tons – about 10% of the port’s total cargo turnover. Of these, 11 million tons were export deliveries to the United States and 17 million tons were imports from the United States. The main share was occupied by container cargo (14.2 million tons), including auto parts, machinery, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals and plastic. Liquid cargo reached 10.2 million tons, and 282 thousand cars were handled as part of RoRo traffic, of which 206 thousand were for export to the United States.

JR East has launched regular freight services on its Shinkansen trains.

JR East has launched regular freight services on its Shinkansen trains on the Tohoku Line, which connects Tokyo with northeastern Japan. The inaugural service covered the nearly 700 km from Shin-Aomori Station to Tokyo Station in just three hours. Two of the ten carriages are allocated for freight, effectively combining passenger and logistics functions.

Loft Logistics has opened a logistics hub in Malaysia to strengthen delivery between Singapore and West Malaysia.

Singapore-based logistics company Loft Logistics has expanded its presence in Southeast Asia with the opening of a new warehouse in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. Situated between the key logistics hubs of Port Klang and Kuala Lumpur, the facility offers a full range of fulfillment services: receiving, quality inspection, warehousing, order picking, returns management and delivery across West Malaysia.
