Kazakhstan modernizes railways: new routes and increased capacity.

In Kazakhstan, construction of the Zhetigen – Kazibek Bek railway line continues, which will reduce the load on the Almaty railway junction by 40% and reduce the delivery time of goods to 24 hours. The project includes the laying of 130 km of tracks, the construction of three separate points, 13 bridges, five railway and one road overpass. The contract for the construction of the line was signed on March 1, 2024.

Ukrzaliznytsia expands its activities: restoration of ferry services and a new branch in Kazakhstan.

Ukrzaliznytsia plans to restore sea transportation by the ferries “Geroi Plevny” and “Geroi Shipki” as part of the development of the Trans-Caspian route. These vessels will be used to transport container trains between the Caspian region and the Black Sea, connecting the ports of Baku, Poti and Odessa. Thus, the company will become an operator of not only railway but also sea transportation, providing a comprehensive logistics service on the China-Europe route.

Poland accelerates modernisation of railway network for Rail Baltica.

Poland plays a key role in the Rail Baltica project, which connects Warsaw with Tallinn and integrates the Baltic states into the pan-European rail network. The Polish section of Rail Baltica, which is approximately 400 km long, is undergoing modernization in five stages, most of which have already been completed. The final section is expected to be completed after 2030, which will reduce the travel time from Warsaw to the Lithuanian border from five hours to three.

The Public Council of the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan approved a work plan for 2025.

The first meeting of the Public Council of the Ministry of Transport in 2024 summed up the work for the past year and approved an activity plan for 2025. Key areas include stabilizing the rail transport market, developing shipping, implementing transport reforms, combating corruption and developing the republican budget. In addition, the Council will support businesses in the field of freight and passenger transportation, as well as developing competition in the rail market.

A new pilot boat for Hamburg has been launched in Estonia.

The new pilot vessel HAMBURG PILOT 3, which will soon be delivered to the customer, was successfully launched at the Baltic Workboats AS shipyard in Estonia. At the same time, construction of HAMBURG PILOT 4, which will replace the current vessel LOTSE 4, began. Both projects are part of the environmentally friendly modernization program of the Hamburg fleet.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan strengthen cooperation in rail transport.

JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) and JSC Uzbekistan Temir Yollari held talks on the development of freight rail transportation between the countries. The discussion was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC Uzbekistan Temir Yollari Abdumalik Kamiljanov, Head of JSC KTZ – Freight Transportation Vladimir Petrov and representatives of relevant departments. The main focus was on increasing the volume of transportation, forming freight trains and organizing regular traffic on the China – Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan route.

ONE has launched a new service, Vietnam China Express (VCX).

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced the launch of its new container service, Vietnam China Express (VCX), which will expand logistics capabilities between Vietnam, China and Hong Kong. The inaugural voyage, MV HAIAN ALFA (voyage 045S), will depart from Ho Chi Minh City Port on April 16. The route includes Ho Chi Minh City – Hai Phong – Nansha – Hong Kong – Hai Phong – Ho Chi Minh City ports with a 14-day cycle and weekly frequency.
