The European Parliament has approved a new regulation aimed at making more efficient use of railway tracks and increasing network capacity by approximately 4%. The document also seeks to improve the coordination of cross-border transport, which should simplify planning and enhance the reliability of passenger and freight services across the European Union.
In May 2026, Kalmar completed the expansion of its facility in Shanghai – a project aimed at optimizing production processes and increasing equipment output. The official commissioning ceremony for the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line will take place on June 2 at the Akhalkalaki railway station in Georgia. Representatives from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey will attend the event. Although the route has been operating in test mode since 2017, its official status as an international transport project is only now being formally established.
The German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) has commenced construction of a new freight train line between Offenburg and Müllheim in the Markgräflerland region. This project is part of the modernization of the Karlsruhe–Basel section and forms a segment of the European Rotterdam–Genoa freight corridor. Two additional tracks will be laid alongside the A5 motorway; consequently, the Rhine Valley Railway will feature four tracks in the future, thereby enabling an increase in train traffic volume.
Logistics operator DACHSER has commenced construction of a new terminal for handling industrial and consumer goods within an industrial park located north of Memmingen. The project, valued at approximately 30 million euros, is being developed on an 8-hectare site and is scheduled for completion by the spring of 2027. The new facility will become an integral part of the company’s European logistics network, providing enhanced capabilities for freight transport between the Allgäu region and international markets.
The Barcelona Port Authority has announced a tender for the construction of a new transport interchange valued at over €98 million. The project aims to improve transport accessibility to the southern section of the port and integrate new access routes into the existing road network. The decision to launch the tender was made by the Port’s Board of Directors as part of a program for the further expansion of port infrastructure.
Representatives of the Port of Kuryk participated in the “USA–Eurasia” Transport Forum, held at the Port of Long Beach in California. The event was organized by the Consulates General of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, bringing together representatives from the port industry, logistics companies, the business sector, and the diplomatic community to discuss prospects for expanding trade and transport ties between the USA and the countries of Eurasia. The Kazakhstani delegation included officials from the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the leadership of the Port of Kuryk, and representatives of the country’s diplomatic missions.
The Akhalkalaki–Kars railway route has been officially opened for Armenia’s export and import operations. According to the country’s Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, the launch of this route marks a significant step for the economy and expands foreign trade opportunities, including direct logistics channels via Georgia and Turkey.
At their annual general meeting, shareholders of Hapag-Lloyd AG approved all resolutions put to a vote, including the payment of a dividend of 3 euros per share. The company noted that 2025 was a successful year for the carrier; transport volumes grew significantly faster than market averages, and financial results remained stable despite a decline in freight rates and rising operating costs.
