JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and the European Railway Agency (ERA) signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at improving the safety and interoperability of the Ukrainian railway system. This is an important step towards integrating Ukrainian railways into the European transport network in accordance with EU standards.
In the first eight months of 2024, the volume of container transportation reached 1.4 million TEU, which is 1% more than in the same period last year. The total weight of transported cargo was 13.3 million tons, which is 8% higher than in 2023. At the same time, the transportation of loaded containers increased by 6% to 1.2 million TEU, while the volume of empty containers decreased by 26% and amounted to 0.2 million TEU. The bulk of container transportation was accounted for by transit traffic – 916.1 thousand TEU (+6%), while the China/Asia – Europe – China/Asia route demonstrated growth of 16%.
On 23 September 2024, a series of successful test runs along the Middle Corridor concluded in St. Gallen, confirming its high potential for rail freight transport. The new route provides companies with alternative transport options and opens up new business opportunities.

Within two years of opening, the center has significantly expanded its capacity, doubling its warehouse space to 40,000 square meters. In Xi’an (China), documents were signed on the establishment of a joint venture for the implementation of the project to build a container hub in the port of Aktau. The project participants were JSC KTZ Express, LLC GC Port Lianyungang and JSC NC Aktau Sea Trade Port. This event took place within the framework of the International Silk Road Exhibition.
International transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss has expanded its network in Romania by opening a new logistics terminal in Popești-Leorden, southeast of Bucharest. The investment in the project amounted to 20 million euros. The new facility complements the existing terminal in Bolintin-Dile, allowing for more efficient distribution of goods in the capital region.
Ukrzaliznytsia and Polish State Railways have agreed to develop intermodal routes between Asia and Europe. During the InnoTrans 2024 exhibition in Berlin, representatives of both countries discussed increasing the capacity of border crossings and expanding railway infrastructure to improve freight transport.
Representatives of Aktau International Airport visited Port Kuryk LLP to get acquainted with the infrastructure of the ferry complex and its activities. The visit was aimed at strengthening interaction between the transport hubs of the region and studying the potential for joint development.
Kazakhstan and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are stepping up cooperation in the transport sector by discussing public-private partnership projects. At a meeting with Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev, representatives of IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, discussed joint initiatives in the railway and aviation sectors.
President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, where he discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between the regions. Tokayev emphasized the importance of developing industrial cooperation, including increasing the supply of critical materials to Germany.
