Antwerp launches revolutionary heat network

On February 29, 2024, the Antwerp North Heat Network was officially launched by Mayor Bart De Wever, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy practices in the port of Antwerp. The innovative pipeline network, connecting Indaver Antwerp and Boortmalt, allows Boortmalt to utilize residual heat from Indaver’s industrial waste processing as a green alternative to natural gas and combined heat and power (CHP) for malt production. Notably, this network is Belgium’s first ‘open access’ heat network, creating opportunities for new suppliers and customers in the region.

Rhenus opens green logistics center in Dortmund

Intermodal success of the Kombiverkerer and digital innovation in railway transport

Kombiverkehr KG reported a significant shift from road to rail, with 815,467 truckloads, equivalent to 1.63 million TEU, transported on climate-friendly rail during the 2023 financial year. The company saw a 15.9% decrease in total transport of containers, swap bodies, and semitrailers compared to the previous year. METRANS expands rail services to Danubeska Streda and Halkali terminal

METRANS has successfully operated a direct service between Dunajska Streda and Halkali since September 2022, providing a crucial link in the METRANS network. The HUB Terminal in Dunajska Streda offers a diverse range of options for onward delivery to ports and destinations across Central and Eastern Europe, Germany, Benelux, and more. The service accommodates various containers, including special equipment like tank containers, with plans to increase capacity in response to growing demand from March 2024, offering additional departures and introducing new delivery options to Indija terminal in Serbia and Budapest in Hungary. The regular weekly connections aim to enhance flexibility, providing customers with efficient and reliable transportation solutions.
