CEVA Logistics announced the launch of a new solution for the sea transportation of used lithium-ion batteries to continental Europe. The service began operations in March 2026 on CMA CGM lines and utilizes specially adapted containers. The initiative aims to ensure the safe delivery of batteries, including from island territories, to recycling centers on the mainland, amid the rapid growth of the electric vehicle and energy storage market.

The new service enables the transportation of all types of used lithium-ion batteries, regardless of their condition, for subsequent diagnostics and recycling in accordance with European environmental requirements. The solution is primarily targeted at isolated regions with limited or no recycling capacity. The service is operated through a partnership with CMA CGM, covering all of the operator’s shipping lines and ensuring the return of batteries to Europe to meet EU collection and recycling requirements.

To enhance safety, CEVA Logistics has implemented a double container system: batteries are placed in special protective modules, which are then loaded into reinforced containers with a capacity of up to six tons. Certified specialists are involved in this operation, and each project undergoes technical and administrative inspections before shipment. This new service complements CEVA’s comprehensive reverse logistics solution for batteries, including collection, storage, transportation, diagnostics, and dismantling, followed by recycling or reuse.
