Logistics company Contargo, in partnership with port operator Ports de l’Escaut, has officially commissioned a new charging station for electric trucks at the container terminal in Bruay-sur-l’Escaut, France. The opening ceremony, attended by representatives from the business community and public authorities, marked a significant step in developing the region’s sustainable transport infrastructure.

Coinciding with the launch of the charging station, Contargo North France unveiled the company’s first two electric trucks in France – fully electric Mercedes eActros models – which will be used for container transport. The new infrastructure features two charging points for heavy-duty electric vehicles located right at the terminal entrance, a move designed to boost operational efficiency and accelerate the transition to low-carbon logistics.

The project was funded by Syndicat Mixte Docks Seine Nord Europe / Escaut, the operator of public port infrastructure in the Valenciennes region. Its facilities handle the transport of approximately 1.2 million tonnes of cargo annually via inland waterways. Promoting multimodal transport and supporting river-based logistics helps reduce emissions in the transport sector and strengthens the industrial competitiveness of the Hauts-de-France region.
