International logistics operator Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has signed a global framework agreement with Exotec, a specialist in robotic warehouse automation systems. The partnership aims to implement automated solutions in Hellmann’s contract logistics segment and transform key supply chain processes by implementing a goods-to-person order processing model. The first joint project has already been launched in the healthcare sector, with further implementations planned for other industries and regions.
This collaboration aims to address the growing challenges in intralogistics. Increasing customer demands, fluctuating order volumes, shorter processing times, and a shortage of qualified personnel are increasing the need for flexible and scalable automated systems. Exotec’s modular robotic solutions will enhance the resilience of warehouse operations, more effectively manage fluctuating cargo flows, and improve resource utilization. These systems are expected to be implemented at Hellmann’s contract logistics facilities worldwide and will be able to quickly adapt to changing market conditions.
The first project is being implemented at a German healthcare client’s warehouse, where speed and reliability of delivery are particularly important. The system automates all stages of warehouse processing, from receiving goods to shipping. After a worker checks the products, robots automatically place them into storage in a system designed for handling medical supplies. The high-speed picking system significantly reduces order processing time and allows for later acceptance before shipping. According to Volker Saurborn, Hellmann’s Director of Contract Logistics, automation will allow the company to respond more quickly to market changes and reduce the workload on its employees.
