Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln (HGK) has begun construction of a new railway network depot in Brühl-Vochem, investing around EUR 7m in the project. The facility, located at the “Am Volkspark” site, is scheduled for handover in summer 2027 and will centralise infrastructure and maintenance functions currently split across Cologne-Godorf, Wesseling and Brühl-Vochem.

Around 180 employees from HGK’s Infrastructure and Maintenance division will relocate to the new site.

HGK operates approximately 250 km of its own rail infrastructure in Cologne and the surrounding region. The network connects industrial sites with Cologne’s Rhine ports and also carries tram lines 16 and 18, which link Cologne and Bonn.

Maintenance activities at Brühl-Vochem already include locomotive and wagon workshop services. Staff are qualified to carry out vehicle inspections, brake overhauls and work on signalling and train radio systems, functions that will be integrated into the new central depot.
