The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group is expanding its TransFER network by launching a new direct connection between Wels, Austria, and the North German ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven. This new service complements existing routes from Vienna and Linz, establishing yet another stable and eco-friendly link between Austria and key North Sea maritime gateways for containers ranging from 20 to 45 feet in size.

Effective May 1, the Port of Rotterdam Authority is launching a pilot project to temporarily merge the Maassluis and Rozenburg sectors into a single “super-sector.” The experiment will run until November 1, 2026, and aims to assess how such a model might help distribute the workload more evenly during periods of reduced shipping activity. Within the port, shipping traffic is divided into 11 geographical zones, each monitored by Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) operators to ensure safe and efficient navigation.

The German logistics company Rhenus Group has announced the completion of the acquisition of the remaining 49% stake in LBH Group. The shares were purchased from the Lagendijk family, bringing LBH entirely under Rhenus’s control. This move serves as a logical continuation of the strategic partnership initiated in 2023, when the two companies joined forces to strengthen their presence in the maritime and port logistics market.

České dráhy reported a consolidated pre-tax profit of CZK 1.8 billion (approx. €74 million) under IFRS for 2025, improving its result by 46% year-on-year despite continued pressure in rail freight.

In the first quarter of 2026, the Port of Gdańsk handled 20.9 million tons of cargo – a 13.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The port thereby reaffirms its position as one of the key transit hubs in the Baltic region, ensuring the stability of cargo flows amidst volatile global logistics and geopolitical risks.

DHL Group has successfully started 2026, despite persisting geopolitical tensions, trade restrictions, and disruptions to global transport routes. In the first quarter, the company’s organic revenue grew by 2.0 percent. On a reported basis, revenue amounted to €20.4 billion, compared to €20.8 billion a year earlier – a decline primarily attributable to currency fluctuations. According to CEO Tobias Meyer, even amidst blocked shipping lanes and closed airspace, the company continues to ensure the movement of cargo and the stability of customer supply chains thanks to its extensive global network and strong local teams.
