Catalonia has approved a plan to create a southern railway hub in the port of Barcelona.

The Territorial Commission of Catalonia has approved the urban development plan for the Intermodal Logistics Terminal (PDU) at the Port of Barcelona, ​​paving the way for the construction of a new southern rail hub. The project is estimated to cost €265 million, of which €26 million will be allocated to creating green spaces. The hub’s infrastructure includes a rolling road terminal and a loading terminal, which will significantly increase the handling of freight moving from road to rail.

PKP CARGO in the first nine months of 2025: Improved financial performance.

The company achieved an operating profit of PLN 90.8 million (approx. EUR 20.7 million) and closed the period with a net loss of PLN 10.4 million (about EUR 2.4 million). This is a major shift compared with the same period in 2024, when both operating and net results were close to minus PLN 800 million (around EUR 182.4 million).

KTZ Express and Rail Cargo Austria are strengthening cooperation on the Trans-Caspian route.

A memorandum was signed in Astana between KTZ Express and the Austrian operator Rail Cargo Austria, aimed at developing multimodal transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The parties agreed to jointly use ÖBB-Holding’s terminal infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as expand terminal capacity in the region and beyond, which will strengthen Kazakhstan’s logistics connectivity with European markets.

Lineas and Railpool extend their strategic partnership to strengthen rail transport in Europe.

Lineas, the largest private freight rail operator in Europe, and Railpool, one of Europe’s leading locomotive leasing companies, have extended their partnership for another six years. Under the renewed agreement, Lineas will continue to operate 33 electric locomotives from Railpool’s fleet, maintaining their current capacity and gaining the option to lease additional or new locomotive types in the future to meet changing shipper demands.

KTZ increased its transportation volumes: in 11 months of 2025, almost 288 million tons of cargo were transported.

According to JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, 287.8 million tons of cargo were transported across the company’s network from January to November 2025, an increase of 11.5 million tons (+4%) compared to the same period last year. Export rail shipments increased to 80.2 million tons, an increase of 4.9 million tons (+6%). Significant growth was recorded in the coal segment: shipments reached 31.2 million tons (+8%), thanks to increased shipments to the EU, and Central Asia.
