Container turnover of the Black Sea ports of Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine increased by 12% in 2024.

According to Informall BG, in 2024, the volume of loaded containers handled in the Black Sea ports of Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine increased by 12% and exceeded 1 million TEU. The highest growth was recorded in Ukraine – by 78% to 86.7 thousand TEU, while in Romania the growth was 9.5% (to 695.8 thousand TEU), and in Bulgaria – 4.5% (to 233.1 thousand TEU).

Regular rail freight services have been launched from Chongqing to Tashkent.

Regular rail freight services have begun between Chongqing, a major metropolis in southwestern China, and Central Asia. The first train carrying a batch of polyester granules crossed the border at Khorgos and headed to Tashkent, covering a distance of 4,700 kilometers in about 12 days.

IATA has recorded the first decline in global air cargo volumes in 19 months.

According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global civil air cargo volumes fell by 0.1% in February 2025 compared to February last year. This is the first decline in 19 months, despite a downward trend that has continued since July 2024. At the same time, global cargo capacity fell by 0.4%, although it increased by 1.1% on international routes.

Kazakhstan and Afghanistan have agreed to build the Turgundi-Herat-Kandahar-Spin-Boldak railway.

The Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan signed a protocol of intent on the project to build the Turgundi-Herat-Kandahar-Spin Boldak railway. The document was drawn up during the visit of the Kazakh delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin to Afghanistan and will form the basis for a further agreement on cooperation in the transport and logistics sectors.

Tbilisi Dry Port, a project of AD Ports Group in Georgia, will open in May 2025.

In May 2025, the first dry port in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi Dry Port, will begin operating in Tbilisi. The project is being implemented by AD Ports Group (UAE), which has previously invested in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The port received permission from the Georgian Railway Agency to receive and process cargo by rail in accordance with the new requirements that come into force on January 1, 2025.

Freight traffic in Germany fell in February, but began to rise in March.

The German Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) recorded a decline in heavy truck traffic on toll roads in February 2025. After a 3.5% year-on-year increase in January, the volume of transport by trucks over 3.5 tonnes fell by 2.5% year-on-year in February. Both German and Polish carriers recorded a drop in mileage, while Lithuanian trucks showed even weaker results.

KTZ increased loading volume by 4.4% in the first quarter of 2025.

According to the results of January-March 2025, the volume of loading on the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy network amounted to 64.2 million tons, which is 4.4% more than in the same period last year. Domestic transportation reached 41 million tons, and exports grew by 12%, amounting to 23.2 million tons.
