HHLA increased revenue and profit in the first half of 2025.

Despite the weak German economy and geopolitical instability, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) significantly improved its financial performance in January–June 2025. The company’s consolidated revenue increased by 16.3% to €884.5 million, and operating profit (EBIT) by 34.8% to €79.4 million. Net profit after taxes and minority interests amounted to €19.1 million versus €13.2 million a year earlier.

QTerminals and Ukraine confirmed plans to resume the concession project in the port of Olbia.

The Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, LLC “Kyuterminals Olvia” and the Qatari company QTerminals signed a memorandum of cooperation, which secures the parties’ intentions to resume the implementation of the concession project in the specialized seaport of Olvia in the Nikolaev region.

Ukraine and Morocco have opened up new opportunities for road transport.

On June 28, 2025, Ukraine and Morocco signed an agreement on international road transport, which for the first time secured direct transport links between the two countries. Hitachi Rail unveils digital platform to speed up intermodal transport in Germany.

Hitachi Rail, together with MT Logistics and DB Cargo, launched the digital platform InGa-Z, created within the framework of the joint venture Protostellar with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Transport. The solution is part of the “Future of Rail Freight” program and combines a terminal operating system with mobile applications, which makes freight terminal operations faster and easier.

The Port of Klaipeda will become the operator of the berth in Jurbarkas for the development of an inland cargo port.

Klaipeda Port Authority and Jurbarkas District Municipality have signed an agreement under which the Authority will become the operator of one of the berths on the Nemunas. This step paves the way for the development of an inland cargo port in Jurbarkas, which will allow river shipping to be used as a strategically important and environmentally friendly alternative for cargo transportation in Lithuania.

The Port of Gdansk has received a direct container connection with the USA.

The Port of Gdansk has joined the ranks of European ports with direct container service to the United States. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world’s largest shipping operator with a fleet of over 850 vessels, has included Gdansk in the route of its Albatros line with regular calls to New York and Charleston. The first voyage on the new schedule was the MSC BERANGERE from Gdansk on August 14. The delivery time is 13 days to New York and 17 days to Charleston.

In Antwerp-Bruges, a major reconstruction of the Baudouin Lock has been completed.

The Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority has carried out a major overhaul of the Baudouin Lock, first opened in 1955 by King Baudouin. The facility, which mainly handles river vessels and small seagoing vessels, had been in operation for over 60 years and needed to be updated to improve its reliability and safety.

Turkish ports show growth in cargo and container handling in 2025.

The total volume of cargo handled in Turkish ports increased by 3% in the first seven months of 2025, reaching 322.8 million tons, according to a report by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. In July, the volume of transshipment amounted to 47.67 million tons, which is 8% more than in July 2024. The leaders in cargo handling were the ports of Kocaeli and Aliaga (7.66 million tons each), Iskenderun (6.18 million tons), Tekerdağ (4.11 million tons) and Mersin (3.9 million tons), with the ten largest ports accounting for 83.4% of the total volume.

XPO beat EBITDA expectations and strengthened its position in the North American LTL market.

In the second quarter of 2025, XPO reported revenue of $2.08 billion, maintaining the level of the previous year. Operating income was $198 million, net income was $106 million (versus $150 million a year earlier, when the company received a one-time tax effect in Europe). Diluted earnings per share decreased to $0.89, but the adjusted figure was $1.05 and exceeded expectations. Adjusted EBITDA reached $340 million, almost the same as last year ($343 million).
