A2B-online Container B.V. announced the expansion of its barge service between CCT Moerdijk in the Netherlands and DGT Duisburg in Germany. Starting April 26, the frequency of services will increase from two to three times per week, strengthening intermodal connections between one of the country’s key short-sea hubs and Germany’s industrial region.
This service expansion was implemented with the participation of partners WEC Lines and Tailwind Shipping Lines. The MS Rulicia will be used to provide the additional service. The new schedule is being introduced in the context of the upcoming launch of the Dutch freight toll system, vrachtwagenheffing. Shifting some cargo from roads to inland waterways allows shippers to avoid new costs and maintain the cost-effectiveness of their logistics.
According to Michael van Keulen, Managing Director of A2B-online Container B.V., the increased service frequency is a response to strong customer demand. The additional weekly rotation provides greater flexibility for door-to-door and berth-to-berth transport, increases available capacity, improves synchronisation with the arrival of seagoing vessels at Moerdijk and contributes to the reduction of CO₂ emissions through the development of waterborne transport.
