Contargo has opened up access to its proprietary IT solution for the logistics industry.

German container logistics operator Contargo has announced the public release of its proprietary software solution, containerLib, which is now available to market participants free of charge via the Open Logistics Foundation repository. The company stated that this move aims to accelerate industry digitalization and foster collaboration among logistics operators. The Java-based library is designed for the standardized processing of container numbers and truck license plates.

Contargo noted that container numbers and license plates are verified and processed millions of times in the daily operations of logistics companies, yet many market participants still rely on their own standalone solutions. The new tool helps reduce development time, minimize errors, and lower maintenance costs. containerLib verifies container numbers in accordance with the international ISO 6346 standard and validates truck license plates based on the requirements of various countries, making the library a versatile tool for the entire supply chain.

The company emphasized that fundamental digital functions – such as container number verification – should not serve as a competitive advantage for individual players but rather be developed through the collective effort of the market. Hosting the solution via the Open Logistics Foundation ensures it remains free for companies of all sizes and allows for continued development through external community contributions. Contargo believes this move could set an example for other industry players and accelerate the creation of a shared digital infrastructure for logistics.
