In Germany, DB Cargo and DHL Freight have increased the capacity of their Parcel Intercity service by adding 12 additional freight trains per week. As of May 2026, new and optimized routes have strengthened transport links between Hamburg, Nuremberg, and Kornwestheim, ensuring shorter delivery times and strict schedule adherence for parcel and freight forwarding shipments.
The introduction of these additional routes is the result of an analysis of existing services; they provide extra capacity for transporting time-sensitive cargo between northern and southern Germany. The Parcel Intercity service connects major logistics hubs using scheduled rail services specifically tailored for parcel transport.
In Switzerland, SBB Cargo has secured Swiss Post Cargo Italia as a client for its CombiLink combined transport service, which operates between Dietikon and Stabio. This agreement entails the transport of at least 4,000 semi-trailers by the end of 2026 along the “North–South” axis connecting Italy and Switzerland.
In Stabio, semi-trailers are transshipped from road to rail transport and delivered overnight to Dietikon, from where they are subsequently distributed to their final destinations via road. Empty semi-trailers return to Stabio on daytime runs, thereby establishing a cross-border combined transport link between the Zurich region and the Mendrisio district.
