In Ashgabat, the development of international railway corridors and the digitalization of transportation were discussed.

On May 13–14, 2026, the 84th meeting of the Council for Railway Transport of the Member States of the Commonwealth was held in Ashgabat, attended by heads of railway administrations from CIS countries, representatives of international organizations, and associate members of the Council. The delegation from JSC NC KTZ was led by the company’s Deputy Chairman, Anuar Akhmetzhanov. The meeting’s primary themes included the development of international transport corridors, the enhancement of freight and passenger transportation services, and the digital transformation of the industry.

The meeting participants reviewed the performance of the railway network for 2025 and the first quarter of 2026. Particular attention was paid to container transportation, the volume of which continues to grow. For the full year 2025, performance indicators in the container segment exceeded the planned targets by 3.9%, while in the first quarter of 2026, growth amounted to an additional 1.6%. The recovery of international passenger services was also noted: in 2025, 10.5 million passengers were transported between CIS countries – a 12.6% increase over the previous year’s figures.

Following the meeting, the Council approved a draft Concept for the Development of International Railway Transport Corridors, aimed at strengthening transit potential and modernizing infrastructure along Eurasian routes. Furthermore, decisions were adopted regarding the further digitalization of passenger transportation; effective July 2026, reporting for international services will be fully migrated to the “Express International” system. Participants also agreed upon amendments to regulatory documents concerning rolling stock maintenance, tariff policy, and the organization of international transportation.
