The Port of Klaipėda will raise €55.5 million for infrastructure modernization and the development of green technologies.

The Klaipėda State Seaport Authority has signed an agreement with the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) for a credit line of €55.5 million to implement a large-scale investment program. These funds will be directed toward modernizing the infrastructure of Lithuania’s largest port, including enhancing navigational safety, increasing throughput capacity, developing passenger facilities, and implementing eco-friendly technologies.

The program entails updating navigational infrastructure and access routes, modernizing the Port Authority’s assets, constructing new facilities for passenger and cruise operations, and installing shore-to-ship power supply systems. Furthermore, the port will host Lithuania’s first green hydrogen production and refueling center. The project also provides for the modernization of radar systems, the strengthening of cybersecurity, and the development of solutions to enhance the port’s operational resilience. The total investment is estimated at approximately €111 million, with about 45% of the funds allocated to the development of the cruise terminal.

Port Authority officials note that implementing this program will enable the port to accommodate larger vessels, increase cargo handling volumes, and expand its scope of operations – including supporting offshore wind and green energy projects. In 2024, the Port of Klaipėda handled approximately 35 million tons of cargo, accounting for nearly 40% of the total cargo turnover among ports in the Baltic region and maintaining its status as the largest seaport in the Baltic states.
