OOCL has unveiled the OOCL Wisdom – the world’s largest container ship featuring a methanol dual-fuel system.

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) held a naming ceremony for its new vessel, the OOCL Wisdom – the first in a series of seven container ships. The event took place at the Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS) shipyard, where the vessel was officially christened in the presence of industry representatives and guests.

With a maximum capacity of 24,168 TEU, the OOCL Wisdom currently stands as the world’s largest container ship equipped with a methanol-dual-fuel system. All of the vessel’s main and auxiliary engines, as well as its boilers, have been adapted to run on methanol; furthermore, advanced systems for energy-efficient management, intelligent monitoring, and safety have been implemented, positioning the ship as a key component of the company’s strategy for emissions reduction and fleet digitalization.

OOCL noted that the commissioning of this new vessel marks a significant milestone in its fleet modernization efforts and underscores its commitment to developing eco-friendly and highly efficient shipping operations. This new series of vessels is expected to strengthen the company’s transportation network, enhance operational efficiency, and provide more sustainable logistics solutions for global trade.
