Undergoing a strategic transformation in 2022, the TransFER Vienna–Scandinavia has been rebranded as TransFER Linz–Scandinavia–Wels, signaling a shift in its route and operations. Expanding its European network, Metrans, the rail subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has completed the acquisition of the Adria Rail Group, operating in Serbia and Croatia. This move reinforces Metrans’ presence in South-East Europe, as Adria Rail becomes an integral part of the Metrans Group, providing rail transport services from the Adriatic region to Central and South-Eastern Europe. The acquisition enhances container transport efficiency, covering a substantial 70% of container movements to and from Serbia through Croatia. Additionally, Adria Rail manages an inland terminal near Belgrade, facilitating daily Metrans trains between this terminal and the Croatian port of Rijeka, further connecting to the Metrans hub terminal in Budapest.
In January 2024, the Kazakhstan Transport Railway (KTZ) noted an increase in the total volume of loading on the network to 20.2 million tons. Domestic rail transport grew by 4.7% to 13.2 million tonnes, while exports stood at 7 million tonnes.
The mild winter is favoring the progress of work at the T3 terminal in the Baltic hub, where the main reinforced concrete work is being carried out entirely thanks to favorable weather conditions, especially high temperatures. Completion of the formation of reloading embankments on 98% of the area is planned by the end of February 2024, and soil consolidation on 70% of the loaded area opens up new fronts of work.
