KTZ accelerates infrastructure projects in Almaty and on the Altynkol-Zhetygen route.

In Almaty, the management of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC held an off-site meeting to discuss the progress of key infrastructure projects. Particular attention was paid to the construction of a bypass railway line around the Almaty station – the construction of the roadbed at the site is almost complete, 74 km of rail and sleeper grid have been assembled, and work on the construction of bridges and laying of pipes is being carried out strictly according to schedule. The project is planned to be completed by the end of the year.

Baltic Hub strengthens its position as the largest container hub in the Baltics by expanding T3.

In March, Baltic Hub, part of the PSA Group, received three state-of-the-art Ship-To-Shore (STS) shore cranes, continuing the large-scale expansion of the T3 terminal. Earlier, in October 2024, the terminal received four more such cranes, which are currently undergoing testing. The new equipment is designed to significantly improve the efficiency of handling the world’s largest container ships.

Ukrzaliznytsia has resumed ferry service with Georgia as part of the development of the TITR.

For the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has resumed ferry service with Georgia – on March 18 and 26, two trips were made from the port of Chornomorsk to Batumi, and a third is planned for the near future. This was announced by the Director of Commercial Work and Logistics of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, Timofey Murakhovsky, at a meeting dedicated to the restoration of the ferry route within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

Azerbaijan Railways completes key project in Iran as part of North-South Corridor.

JSC Azerbaijan Railways is actively implementing the construction of the strategically important Astara terminal in Iran as part of the development of the International North-South Transport Corridor. 85% of the design and 72.4% of the construction and installation works have already been completed. An 8.3 km railway line has been laid from the Astara station to the Iranian border and a bridge has been erected across the Astarachay River. Of the seven planned bridges, one is completely ready, and the rest are in the final stage (90% of the work has been completed).

MPCC launches first methanol container ship for Northern Europe’s ‘green corridor’.

MPC Container Ships (MPCC) has officially unveiled NCL Vestland in Haugesund, Norway, the first of two dual-fuel feeders to join the fleet in 2025. The 1,300 TEU container ship will operate between Norway and Rotterdam under a 15-year charter contract with North Sea Container Line (NCL), supported by long-term partnerships including an agreement with industrial group Elkem.

KTZ set a five-year record for grain transportation in the first quarter.

In January–March 2025, 3.6 million tons of grain were transported via the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy network — a record figure over the past five years and 49% more than in the same period last year. Exports amounted to 2.8 million tons (+52%), domestic transportation — 788 thousand tons (+38%). A record was also set in March: 1.2 million tons of grain, which is 63% more than in March 2024.

The Port of Szczecin has increased the capacity of its Grain Dock through a large-scale modernisation.

The Szczecin and Świnoujście Port Authority has completed the reconstruction of a section of the Grain Quay, significantly increasing its handling capacity. The berth can now handle vessels with a draft of up to 11 metres, the same as those that can enter the port via the deepened fairway. Previously, the depth limit was 10 metres, which allowed for the handling of vessels with a draft of up to 9 metres.

The port of Kuryk hosts a Finnish delegation to discuss cooperation.

Port Kuryk LLP became the venue for the official visit of the delegation from Finland headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of this country to Kazakhstan. The delegation included representatives of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce EastCham and leading Finnish companies operating in the fields of logistics, port equipment, shipbuilding, energy, industrial construction and mining.
