Maersk has adjusted its schedule and processes ahead of China’s “Golden Week”.

In anticipation of the national holiday in China from October 1 to 7, 2025, when many factories, ports, and customs offices temporarily suspend operations, Maersk has taken measures to minimize the impact of the “golden week” on customers. The company has adjusted the schedule of services between the Far East and Europe and temporarily rerouted the AE12 line in the Adriatic region: vessels now call in Rijeka before the port of Koper.

As of October 1, Maersk implemented a new container release process in Germany, Secure Release Order, which replaces the PIN system with a digital permit. The new procedure is mandatory for the ports of Hamburg and Bremerhaven and requires a German Ports ID. A transition period will last until October 14, after which container releases will be carried out exclusively digitally. In Slovenia, the company continues to operate under rail restrictions due to infrastructure repairs near the port of Koper, which will last until the end of the year.

Maersk is also implementing changes at the port of Poti (Georgia): starting in September, all of the company’s imported containers will be issued exclusively via road for onward transportation by customers, in full compliance with EU, US, and UN sanctions policies. At the same time, Maersk is seeing increased demand for air freight—in July, global volumes grew by 5.5% year-on-year, driven by the growth of e-commerce and the increase in high-value shipments. The company encourages customers to book space on key routes in advance of the peak season.
