The Port of Klaipeda has announced a call for applications for the largest expansion in its history.

The Klaipeda Port Authority has officially opened the call for applications for participation in the Southport project, the largest expansion programme in the history of the Lithuanian harbour. The project envisages the creation of about 100 hectares of new port territory and the construction of 1.3 km of berths, which will significantly increase cargo turnover and attract investment in modern production and logistics facilities.

According to Algis Latakas, Director General of the Klaipeda Port Authority, the Southport project is a strategic step not only for Klaipeda, but also for the entire maritime economy of Lithuania. The port invites international and local operators, developers and investors to express interest within the framework of the envisaged public-private partnership model.

Preparatory work is currently underway, including a feasibility study, navigation and geotechnical studies, and an environmental impact assessment. A construction permit is expected by the end of 2025.
