French shipping company CMA CGM has submitted a bid to acquire Belgian cargo airline Air Belgium. The deal includes maintaining the Air Belgium brand and acquiring four aircraft, strengthening CMA CGM’s position in the air cargo sector.
A previous attempt to sell Air Belgium to Air One Belgium was abandoned, but the company has filed an appeal, with a hearing scheduled for April 3. CMA CGM’s bid will be heard by the court at the end of March.
CMA CGM’s Air Cargo division, created in 2021, already operates four freighters and plans to add two more this year. The carrier will increase capacity by adding eight modern A350s by 2026.
