British airline Ascend Airways UK, a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, has added a Boeing 737 MAX 8 to its fleet. The move strengthens the company’s position in the UK market and supports its strategy to enter new destinations in Europe, including counter-cyclical markets.
The new Boeing 737 MAX 8, manufactured in 2017 and subleased from SmartLynx, another Avia Solutions Group company, was added to the airline’s fleet in December 2024. According to Ascend Airways UK CEO Alastair Wilson, the aircraft meets modern standards: it reduces CO2 emissions by 20% and has a 40% lower noise footprint, allowing the company’s customers to reduce their environmental impact while increasing traffic.
The aircraft has 189 seats in economy class, but can be reconfigured to a two-class layout with 12 business class seats and 150 economy class seats. This approach provides flexibility, with the aircraft being used in a full economy configuration in the summer to meet high leisure demand, and in a two-class configuration in the winter to serve destinations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Ascend Airways UK currently operates two aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 and a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The airline plans to add a further three aircraft to its fleet in the first quarter of 2025, bringing the total to six by summer 2025, while maintaining its focus on sustainability and flexibility to meet customer demands.
