Kombiverkehr expands rail connectivity: Trade routes between Germany, Greece, and Turkey via Trieste

In the early months of 2024, enhanced connectivity emerges among Germany, Greece, and Turkey through the bustling Italian port of Trieste. Kombiverkehr, the Frankfurt-based intermodal operator, announces an expansion of its rail services between the DUSS terminal in Munich-Riem and Trieste, now boasting five weekly roundtrips. This upgraded service facilitates the seamless transportation of goods from Trieste to the Greek port of Patras and the Turkish ports of Pendik, Mersin, and Cesme.

Previously offering three weekly roundtrips, Kombiverkehr introduces a convenient one-stop shop booking system, allowing customers to efficiently utilize the transportation of P400 semitrailers along the entire route. Notably, the company now accommodates the transportation of hazardous goods, excluding only class 1 and 7 dangerous goods. Beyond the direct routes, Kombiverkehr’s expanded network also ensures additional connections to the UK, Benelux, Poland, Norway, and Sweden via Trieste and Munich. Furthermore, the DUSS terminal in Munich is not the sole link to Southeastern Mediterranean ports; Kombiverkehr extends connectivity via Cologne, which has provided four weekly roundtrips since 2022, connecting to the same destinations in Greece and Turkey. The company also utilizes Munich as a gateway to Istanbul, collaborating with Cobantur Boltas and DB Cargo to operate an intermodal train between the DUSS terminal and the Halkali terminal near the Turkish city, complementing existing ferry connections.
