Zero Emission Services (ZES) Launches Pioneering Electric Vessel with ZESpacks in April 2024

In April 2024, the Den Bosch Max Groen, an innovative inland vessel powered exclusively by ZES (Zero Emission Services) technology, is poised to initiate emission-free journeys across Den Bosch, the Maasvlakte, and Moerdijk in the Netherlands. With electric navigation using ZESpacks, modular energy containers, and a fixed battery package, the vessel is a groundbreaking step towards sustainable shipping.

Collaboratively led by the Inland Terminals Group (ITG), Nedcargo, and Zero Emission Services (ZES), the Den Bosch Max Groen sets the stage for five more vessels. ZESpacks will be charged at 2x 1MVA charging stations, featuring a rapid 1MW Megawatt Charging System (MCS) connector. This technology allows ZESpacks to charge in three hours and operates on an innovative pay-per-use billing model. The electrification of the Den Bosch Max Groen is anticipated to annually reduce emissions by 715 tonnes of CO2 and 13 tonnes of NOx, with further reductions as the zero-emission fleet expands.

To support the charging needs of these vessels, ZES will establish cutting-edge charging stations at strategic locations, starting with the first station at the BCTN terminal in Alblasserdam in Q1 2024. The subsequent stations in Den Bosch (BCTN terminal), Moerdijk, and the Prins Johan Friso Port in Rotterdam will contribute to fostering widespread adoption of green and sustainable shipping practices in inland navigation.
