Kazakhstan is making a significant investment in four major railway projects aimed at enhancing logistics, as reported by the Ministry of Transport. Within the framework of the national project “Dostyk – Moynqty,” the construction of second tracks and electrification of a 833 km railway segment is planned, with a total investment volume of 938.1 billion tenge. It is anticipated that these measures will increase the capacity of the segment fivefold, with the transportation speed between China and Europe reaching 1,500 km per day.
Another pivotal project is the “Bakhty – Ayagoz” line, covering a distance of 270 km, which will be connected to the existing “Semey – Aktoğay” section and the “China – Europe – China” corridor. Previously valued at 321 billion tenge, this project is scheduled for completion in 2024-2025, and its launch is expected to increase cargo transportation to/from China by 20 million tons per year.
The remaining two projects, the “Darbaza – Maktaaral” line and the bypass line in Almaty, will establish connections between China, Central Asia, and the countries of the Persian Gulf. These initiatives aim to relieve crucial railway stations and expedite freight delivery. The combined financing for these projects amounts to 161.8 billion tenge and 93.6 billion tenge, respectively, with construction slated for completion in 2024.
